Apart from that, it also reduces students understanding of local history and cultural traditions in their environment.
In fact, from a cultural perspective it cannot be denied that Indonesia has an extraordinary wealth of local culture.
Junus Melalatoa (1995) has noted that there are at least 540 ethnic groups in Indonesia, each of which has and develops different local traditions or cultural patterns.These cultural patterns also change as a reaction to the dominant influence of global culture.
This counter reaction was not to fight but to find common ground in order to maintain the existence and identity of their group and local culture.
One of the efforts to maintain the existence and strengthen culture is carried out through art education which is required to contain local wisdom values and strengthen national character.
Of course, as an educational process, it is carried out systemically and takes place in continuous stages in situations and conditions in the family, school and community.
Therefore, it is not wrong if education is one of the directions of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
